Sunny, many flowers. A lot of oddball singletons this visit. The Variegated fritillary is a rare stray to California which will have to live on as the one that got away as I was unable to get a picture after apparently startling it. A lot of the monarchs seemed to be just hanging out in shady areas.

I got to see this very dark and fresher looking Ocola Skipper from the first 2 pics. I was pretty excited startled to find another Ocola Skipper on the other side of the field 10 minutes later! I only got one crummy photo, but it will do. This is the first time I have seen 2 Ocola Skippers on the same weekly butterfly transect walk on the same visit ever! Monarchs are on their way migrating through NE Ohio!

California Dogface was feeding at lantana in organic pollinator garden near county open spaces. It was being chased by cabbage whites. Host plants Amorpha Californica and Amorpha Fruticosa also in garden. Sunny day in the 80’s F. Other butterflies feeding at lantana, Buddleia, Verbena, and Milkweed in garden.

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park - Plum Canyon
San Diego County, CA

Started out sunny with increasing clouds starting after noon, eventually fully cloudy in the afternoon. Extremely dry with little nectar but some plants are beginning to regrow. I’m not sure where “Plum Canyon” ends, and I explored many side trails/washes. The Giant Skippers seemed even more active in cloudy weather.
1 un-id brown Nymphalid flew past very briefly, probably Common Buckeye.
